Mom (87) has had nasal drip for years, leaving tissue everywhere she goes. Now it is starting to back up in her throat a little when she sleeps. I read somewhere online that a possibility could be loss of CSP through the nose. We have been through the cold theory many times with the physcian, but no change. It definitely never snows. She lives in a temperate climate. Always is warmly dressed, etc.

Thanks, Ms. Bursack. I was surprisingly called that I am to fly back & assist my mother to all appointments. She did have a vascular scan a year ago but I had no idea where that was taking us.

Actually, my husband, long before he was Diagnosed with Alzheimer's after many tests, and his father had Alzheimer's, or so they said, 25 years ago, he did have Sleep disorder and acting out in his sleep. I sent him to a sleep clinic back in 2004, and they said it was Sleep Apnea and found a benign brain tumor at the time. So which came first, the chicken or the egg, I guess we'll never know. Thanks for your imput and hope you are doing well. Take care of yourself (good advise for myself too)

Paula, LBD was diagnosed by analysis of symptoms by an expert, basically. My husband had had REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (acting out of dreams) for decades, so when he had a cognitive melt down and also visual hallucinations, LBD was the obvious first candidate. Other symptoms checked out.

I just read a great book for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's Disease and realized that almost none of it applies to my husband. LBD and AD really are quite different.

There is a list of "core features" and other features, a certain number of which must be present for a diagnosis of LBD. You can find this on the LBDA web site.

Interesting, my husband has Alzheimer's and his nose, particularly in the morning runs like crazy. I've mentioned it to his Doctors and he was given a nasal spray(s), that don't help that much. It seems to ease off as the day goes on.

This could be an allergy, but it could be related to dementia. There are some studies going on about vascular dementia and nasal dripping. Since she has episodes of memory loss, she should be evaluated for dementia. When she has this evaluation, please make a point of the nasal dripping. The physician may or may not think they are related, but it never hurts to give information.
Take care,
Carol
