My mother is 86 and she is on a ventilator and is hoping to be weined from it but she keeps pulling the trach tube out of her neck. She cannot go into rehab when she is still pulling the trach tube out. How do we prevent her from doing this?
That's a good question. My mother-in-law needed just a small amount of oxygen to help her breathe and they put the tubes in her nose, but she did the same thing.
I wish I could give you an answer - you can imagine why she does this. Most of us would if we didn't know how serious it was that we have this tubing. Any ideas out there? Carol
