My DIL, in her mid-forties, suffered an aortic dissection two years ago. That condition is stable now but her health continues to deteriorate. She has developed congestive heart failure along with so many other "lesser" problems that it's heart-breaking to list them all. She's certainly depressed and there are indications of mild cognitive problems. Now she's skipping medical appointments, at least partly because of money worries. My son, her husband, tries to encourage and support her, while working full-time, doing all kinds of odd jobs for extra money, and doing everything else---literally---that has to be done, including keeping life as normal as possible for their little boy. There are additional complications having to do with her family---too much to go into here, but they're serious. Is there a forum for him? For me, in trying to love and support them all?

Find Care & Housing
...A year later. I marvel at both of them, my DIL and my son. My DIL is so brave. My son...what can I say? I asked him at Christmas, "Can you go on handling it?" and he said, "My life right now is love through service."

Dear realtime,

I'm sorry that your family is going through so much. Your son sounds amazing and good for you for having raised him right.

This is a great forum and personally I wouldn't care on whit if your son posted here but I understand his need to find another forum where he can relate better to other spouses in his situation. And I know those forums are out there because I came across them prior to finding this one.

Do a Google search, type in random searches. Like "Spouse caring for disabled spouse support forum" and things like that. Keep searching until you find what you're looking for. They're out there, I promise.

I know we have some spouses here who are caring for their spouse but the ones I'm thinking of are also caring for an elderly parent at the same time. I don't know if there would be anything here for your son but we have tons of articles and information here. Maybe through this site he can find something appropriate for him.

I'm glad you spoke up, realtime. Good luck in your search.
