I'm using Turbo Tax. Since I'm POA for my mother, I'm about to file her 2015 tax return. I got a six-month extension once I learned I had to mail it and the forms with a POA notice and a copy of the POA. Am I allowed to pay Turbo Tax for helping with her state and federal by having the money come from her federal return or should I just use my credit card? I've put her new address as the nursing home where she now resides.

Don't use your credit card. Fees for a tax prep person or accountant are legitimate expenses for her. As POA, have your address as the place to send correspondence.

You can either have TurboTax take it out of the refunds or do an ACh from your mother's checking account. Be sure to have her tax return from last year so you can fill in the amount -- important in submitting it if you don't have a PIN for the IRS. I always pay and receive refunds from our checking accounts. The IRS will charge if you use a credit card. They don't want to lose that percentage.

Moms66, I just read this again about you sending the form and return next week. If you plan to mail the return, how are you using TurboTax? That is normally for total filing online.

Moms66angel - I am in the same boat as you, but Mom is still living at home. I believe all relevant expenses are tax deductible. Would like to ask you what type of "POA notice" are you referring to? I filed TYE 2013 in April 2016 (I'm behind) and simply included a copy of the POA with relevant info highlighted. Received federal refund check in the mail also immediately, but never received the state refund check and need to look into that. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide on the "POA notice."
