70+ male with Parkinson's wants to urinate standing, but cannot successfully keep his clothing out of the way, or aim consistently. As his caretaker, I help, but am not there 24/7. It was reported he has walked into the hall, looking for help pulling up his pants - and was wet. He is afraid of moving into assisted living wing, where most patients are demented or suffer from Alzheimer's.

My dad didn't have Parkinson's but did have an awful tremor. Eating and drinking were issues but peeing was the worst. The last time he was at my house it looked like there had been one of those sprinklers you see in parks in my bathroom! Being a woman I really don't get why some men have an issue with going sitting down - maybe is an emasculation thing? Finally we just had to talk to him about it head on - no pun intended :)

I enjoyed your post and your humor. I also am a woman and DO NOT understand men's need to stand and spray. Dad fell, because all the sprinkles are slippery! I have to bleach the grout around the toilet twice a week to control the icky smell. I told him "STAND and diapers or SIT and smile." Good luck. We love them muchly - pee and all!

If you can have a urinal installed I suggest you look into the cost of that. He could get close up and it won't spray all over the place. If you cannot get a urinal - and I know this is going to sound disgusting - ask him to pee in a wide-mouth mason jar or bottle in the privacy of the bathroom. And while it sounds shocking many taxi drivers and truckers do it when they're on the road and there's just not a rest stop in sight. Perhaps he'll decide for himself that he'd rather just sit down and pee. Good luck!
