Find Care & Housing
Check your employer's leave of absence policy
There are some job protection laws on the books but you may have to use up any sick leave days and the rest of the time is unpaid - it is limited though

I've tried to store as much vacation and sick time as allowed for when the time comes but we never know how much time we'll need - take it too soon and you won't have any time at the end or wait too long and wish you had spent more time when it matters

I'm too young to retire and getting too old for the demands of a 60 hour a week job - my siblings are 16-18 yrs older and collecting pensions but won't even visit mom let alone help coordinate her care - I miss at least a day of work each month for dr appointments for her

Why stop working? Use FMLA to get time off, job held for you so you can help with folks.
