My mother has had 2 strokes. Last week was released from hospital with the option of going into a nursing home or coming home, but would require 24 hour a day supervision. What does my stay at home wife need to do to qualify for payment to care for mom?

Have attorney draft a legal caregivers agreement between your mother and your wife and the care your Mom will receive from your wife and the pay. The state Dept of Aging may also have some programs that your Mom and wife could receive pay when participating in said program. I believe Ohio has a program. Do the legal caregivers agreement too. Check around but that is what I have read.,

Good for Ohio if they have such a program! I hope more states will eventually see the wisdom.

One place to check for information is to type the words Ohio (or any state) and aging services into your search engine. Then you'll see lots of links to their services. Look for their version of the National Family Caregivers Support Program. It may have a different title, but each state has a version. Your contacts there can be very helpful.
Good luck,
Carol
