Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits are not impacted by assets, inheritance, or other unearned income. Your SSDI benefits are based upon your work history and the amount of taxes you paid into Social Security. Only income that is earned from working, can affect your SSDI benefits once your Trial Work Period time has been met.

I agree with rfhendricks, but want to add one more thing. If you are also getting SSI, you are required to report the added money available and your SSI benefits may be affected.

I went through this with my inheritance. My husband on SSI at the time. SSI rules are different. I had to spend my money the same month I got it for it not to affect my husbands SSI. My family arranged for me to get my money on the first on the month so I had a few weeks to decide. I talked to a lawyer to make sure no laws were broken..
