I have 3 siblings...My youngest sister is my mom's POA (but not her medical POA) and has been a total witch since my father passed!!! My mom was in assisted living and feel 2 days ago and is in the hospital with a fractured her hip. There are some medical issues that need to be decided, and I am not sure which one of us is Medical POA...Where/how do I find this out and get a copy?

Mick, are you sure that mom has appointed a mdpoa? It may have been your dad? Would make sense. Is your mom competent? She can draft a new poa any time she wants. You can get the social worker at the hospital involved in talking to mom about why a poa is necessary, as well as a DNR, etc. Did mom and dad use an attorney to prepare the documents? The attorney would be bound by confidentaility but you could provide current information. Then perhaps the attorney would contact your mom. Sometimes poa's are recorded with the county clerk.

Mick, yes responding here is ok. One of the main purposes of this forum is for us to all learn from each other if we are comfortable doing that. If you are not, then messages are ok too.

Medical POA assignment is often included in the Advance Directive document. Do you know where a copy of that is? People who are aware enough to make out POA documents typically do this one, too.
