She just needs interaction and a purpose. She needs to be able to visit & talk & do things with others. She lives on her own, but has a grandson who cooks & cleans for her, but can't drive, & a daughter who lives about hour away & comes to take her to appointments. Can you pick up & return her to her home?

Find Care & Housing
Joyce, wish we could stop buy to pick up your friend and drive her where she wishes to go, but this website is "information only", but let's see where we could direct you to get local information.

If you live in the States, contact your county agency on aging for programs such as Case Management, Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Care, housing, care referrals, etc,... go to the website link below.... click on your State.... now click on the city/county. https://www.agingcare.com/local/Area-Agency-on-Aging

I agree, our local Office of the Aging has a booklet of the services they offer.

Some churches have volunteers who will arrange rides for seniors who no longer drive. There is one in my metropolitan area just can't recall the name. A friend did this on a regular basis for 2 seniors, she loved doing this as a way of showing her faithfulness to community members. You need NOT be a member of their faith community, and they will NOT proselytize. They just want to put themselves at service to the community. Goodluck, pick up the phone & call a local church first thing tomorrow, they could have an opening for you this week!

Take her to the senoir center, drop her off, Weds. are usually the best days for lunch and entertainment. (Here in So. Calif.)

Our local senior center had a shuttle that would pick Dad up, at a very minimal price. Also could take them other places, but cost more.

More info on your profile page would help clarify your situation.

Is there a wheelchair involved? Is she sight impaired? Is there any cognitive decline? Can she step up, go sit to stand, and transfer unaided? Can your mother provide a vehicle or not? These are all considerations in finding the right transportation choice.

My mother lived in a county with one shuttle to the big city in the next county over, one day a week, and it ran one route. If your appointment wasn't on the route, on that day, you were out of luck. The bus had steps. Not sure what people in a wheelchair were supposed to do. Different places have different options, but one size does not fit all.

You may also consider something like care website, where you can find a private-pay companion/errand helper that is background checked. This person might also be able to assist in other areas too.

I would beware of sites like craigslist to find someone. The risk is not worth it in my opinion.

My recommendations for seniors who still own their car is to keep it and hire a driver when you want to go out. This has worked for some.

Seniors are learning to stay at home more often and go out only 1-3 times per week. With a grandson who cooks, this is socialization and should be appreciated.
