Last year I had to leave my job because my father had a stroke and needed full time care. My Mom came with him and we realized that her memory was not good. She cannot be left alone now that Dad is gone for more than an hour. I try not lo leave her alone at all but it is difficult at times. I can no longer hold a job and care for her. Is there any program that compensates elder care givers instead of institutionalizing them?

Good point, assandache7. If Mom has the funds, there is no reason she shouldn't be paying for her care.

Also if your Mom has the funds you can see an attorney and set up a care agreement between you and your Mom.

Is Mom on Medicaid? If so, contact her case worker with your questions. Medicaid does have a program to help keep elders in the community, and in many states it includes paying family caregivers.

Another place to start your search is NJ Aging and Disabilities Resources: https://www.adrcnj.org/
