Been taking care of elderly parents but need to move them into my home. Unable to find a nice nursing home due to my parents have no assets or money. Need any info on grants or anything that I can make a small addition that would be wheelchair accessible and one floor safe? Appreciate any information you can give or direct me in the right place. I live in Berks County Pa and my Parents live in Lancaster Pa.

This is rough. Are you able to sell what they currently own to generate some funds to do some work on your home? If you have a large circle of friends, you may also check out the website gofundme It's a com (this forum doesn't like links). If you go to that site, you'll see instructions on setting up a place friends can contribute via PayPal. I have a couple of friends who have successfully raised funds this way. Good luck! And good for you, looking after your parents.

Here is a link for your local CIL (Center for Independent Living) that might be a good resource: www.abilitiesinmotion.org/homemod.html. Sometimes accessibility is pretty simple, but there are guidelines on how to do it correctly. Getting a home visit from an occupational therapist can also be extremely helpful. Have you also been in touch with your Area Agency on Aging? (co.berks.pa.us/aging) You MIGHT also still have an active Telephone Pioneers volunteer group in the area (one of their traditional things is to build ramps for people). Hope this is some help!
