I just started a Geriatric care manager, she charges 125 an hour my Mom dislikes her very much. My Mom gets delusional, I had to put her in an assisted living in Ca. I live in Seattle. She flipped when I came down to visit, she goes in and out of this type of thing, it is mainly delusions and she can get mean.
I tried to hire someone that was recommended to go and see her one hour a week, they charge 125 an hour, My Mom disliked her so very much.
Any advice as to someone I can hire to watch over the whole situation with my Mom to be like a private caregiver type of thing but in the facility. 125 an hour is way high, but I was hoping she could really help my Mom get on track and get better. Thank you so much for anyone who has advice! Ellie

One option would be too bring in a couple of different geriatric care managers to see how your mother reacts to them before making the final decision on who to use. It's possible she'll hate them all, but if one of them is able to connect with her better it might really make that $125/hr go a lot farther in what they are able to do with her cooperation instead of resistance!

I agree. Yeah wish she would be cooperative, she keeps asking when I am going to send down the list so she can start interviewing, One of the very last caregivers my Mothers locked out, she thought she was someone else in disguise, then when I was down there we hired another one and my Mom lost it. The lady was awesome, my Mom started like making noises as if she had a cat in her lap and was petting it, saying kitty, kitty, kitty. She said my little one had 666 on his forehead. The only way I could get the police to take her was to leave the house and tell them I didn't feel safe inside with her. and that is advice to anyone that is the only way. The first time the fire dept came they wouldn't take her. She went to ER and then to assisted living. My Mom trusts me. But she is not ok, she cannot be home. This is so hard. My Mom feels alone too, but she is mean sometimes and acts very strange.

Elliebabe, have you considered what you want the person you hire to do? Since your mom is in a facility, they should be handling the routine stuff. So, are you looking for companionship? I can get that service in the northeast for $12-15/hour. A private aide that is a home health aide or certified nursing assistant --- you can get that from an agency for about $22/hour. A geriatric care manager typically oversees medical issues and reports back to the family. You may not need this specialized a service. Another thought, can you move her closer to you?

Thank you, Yes, I was looking for someone to oversea her sort of, and see her progress and eventually if she followed all the rules she might be able to come home, but she is stubborn and wants to be in charge. She's also not taking the meds they gave her for her mind... I am at a loss I am going to look into someone else.... it's hard from here.
