I have a need for a cell phone type of call device. I have found that I stumble at unexpected times. When I fall I can't get up. I have not broken any bones. My Family is justifiably concerned and I have no problem wearing a call device; but I am still very mobile. Thank you for your help.

Check with AARP, they have ads for Emergency Response Systems that cover where ever you are and I think the Dept of Social Services might be able to help, check with them.

I found the Medical alert devices only work if you are at home. I needed something for my husband who is hearing impaired. I wanted him to be able to reach me if he was out walking and fell or was sitting in the car while I shopped and he needed me. We found he could hear on the cheapest cellphone at Sprint and just added him to my account. This phone has a ICE button, also a 911 button. I just programed my cell phone number into his phone. We both feel more comfortable now when we are not together.

Our local community offers Lifeline which is based in the local hospital. It used to be free but they now charge a minimal fee. They put a base unit in your home and you wear a pendant alert button around your neck. Once you press the button they can talk to you via the base unit and they call the people on the list you give them and those people are even patched through to speak with you. They then also will send Fire rescue to you. Its a great service at a minimal fee. You might check with your local hospitals or local government agencies to see if the service is available in your area. It may be called LIFELINE.

LifeAlert advertises a necklace type device that will sense if you fall and cannot answer. They will send help. Also, remove all rugs in your house, and any obstructions that would cause you to fall. If you are still uneasy on your feet, get a walker. By all means, talk with your doctor if you are taking any medications that are causing you to become dizzy, or if you have an osteoporosis issue. Get tested with a DEXA every two years (Medicare covers it every year if you have the diagnosis), and you can be tested with a balance test. Whatever you do, do it quickly as you do not want a broken bone. Good luck!

Is there a reason why you shouldn't simply use a cell phone? There are lots of inexpensive cell phones available. Not all cell phones are smart phones. I have a Tracfone which cost me about $14 for the phone and I subscribe on an annual basis for about $100. I'm not a big conversationalist in the phone, so I never use up a year's worth of minutes.
