There are no alternatives for me. I have a blood clotting disease and have recently have my forth major blood clot. I am told my Coumadin no longer works, and I was prescribed Lovenox shots. Because I have had two episodes of internal hemorrhage in the past predazor and xeralto pills are risky at best (no antidote for internal bleeding). I am currently taking one of these now because the shots will cost me 165$ per day, which more than doubles my monthly income. What can I do?

Just looked up this drug. You are aware there is a generic equivalent, yes?

Excellent, Babalou. Poster, you may have to jump through hoops, fill out a million forms, get your doctor to fill out forms . . . but I'm betting, if you squeek the wheels long enough, they'll eventually cover it.

IN THE MEANTIME, call the drug manufacturer, tell them your problem. They may well have assistance for people just like you.

Don't monkey around thinking about this! Call your insurance company today. Call the drug manufacturer today. In today's world, it has become almost a necessity that each of us become self-advocates. Go get 'em!

I second Babalou's advice. Some drug companies will offer discounts on drugs rather than lose a customer. It may take some time to wind your way around to the division that can help but it's time well spent. Check the website for the manufacturer of the $165/day drug.

Find out what the appeal process is for your drug plan, for a start. Talk to your doctor about samples and contact the drug company.
