My Mother has Dementia and will not eat anything with black pepper. We are having a hard time trying to get her to eat anything. She picks at her food and if there is any dark spots in her food she will not eat.

Your profile is blank, but if she lives in a facility, speak with the dietician and tell them not to put pepper in Mom’s food. What she is seeing is real to her. If she is at home, check her food before you serve it and remove any burned bits.

Or see if facility will start using white pepper for lighter colored foods.

Some facilities give you choices of what to eat. Let her order a sandwich if she won’t eat a meal with black specs.

The facilities I have visited always offer a sandwich as an alternative meal.
