My Mom tends to get a stomach upset, diarrhea and then a sudden drop in her cognitive abilities. It happened again this weekend and we didn't have anything strange or hard to digest. It's just something that happens every couple of months or so.
The digestive issue works itself out right away and I get some of her back but not all.
And each time we see her doctor, it's just an acknowledgement that we have lost more of her. Her bloodwork is always good and she doesn't have an infection or anything like that.
Does anyone else have a LO who steps down in ability like this?

A sudden bout with diarrhea can cause a sudden drop in ones electrolytes which has been linked to memory loss and mild cognitive impairment, and increases ones risk to develop dementia.
Has her Dr. checked to see if her electrolytes are in balance and at the appropriate levels? I would request that they do a blood test to check her levels on the main ones, sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and then take it from there. Best wishes in getting the answers you need.

Very interesting. Learned something new. My Moms B/P would drop after a good BM.
