No diagnosis. Looking for advice as I am overwhelmed at knowing how to best help care for my mom. She is bedridden and needs diapers change, very weak and fragile and in constant pain from intestinal and bladder issues. She is on meds at a board and care now. I am caring for as much as I can. I can’t have her live with me. I quit my job and came to help her due to health decline and wanting to support and love her. I need to go back to work and she needs a facility like a nursing home only she doesn’t qualify for Medi-cal and doesn’t make enough money on SS to pay for anything. She is stuck in a loophole. I’ve called social workers and other companies asking for help.

She has no actual diagnosis for the “failure to thrive” and just wants to die. There are no assets and family can’t help financially.

My Mom has had chronic depression and debilitating anxiety for most of her life. All the antidepressants, pill addiction and alcoholism to cope have left her with frail, poor overall health along with intestinal and bladder problems. She calls me constantly asking for Dr’s to help her. We have exhausted the Dr’s and psychiatrists and all tests. I don’t know what to do for her or how to get her care.

Thank you.

Has your mom actually applied for long term care Medi-cal? Because LTC medi-cal is different from medi-cal health insurance and the income guidelines are different. So she might not qualify for medi-cal health insurance at this time but that doesn’t mean she can’t get medi-cal for long term care in a nursing home. If she doesn’t qualify for LTC medi-cal then look into a miller trust, it is where her excess income goes into a trust account & medi-cal is the beneficiary and the money goes to them.Is she a veterans by any chance? Or was your dad a vet? She might be able to get VA assistance if so.

Social workers from where? In my area APS social and/or hospital workers seem to be able to move things along much faster than Area Agency on Aging or Medicaid social workers. Medicaid qualification and placement takes 6-8 weeks while APS can place someone in 1-3 days. Or you may need a hospitalization where hospital social workers are forced to find a safe discharge environment for your mother.
