My mom's index finger moves on it's own and she says she can't feel it; any ideas?

This just made me think of a diagnosis my husband just received. He was having a lot of pain in his armpit. Enough he went to the doctor. Nothing was found wrong in that area but another test showed the pain was caused by Carpal Tunnel. Seems the nerve effected by Carpal Tunnel is the same nerve that runs up the arm into the arm pit. No, he had no pain in his wrist but does have numbness in his index finger and thumb.

This could be as simple as "essential tremor" cwillie mentioned, but more often that is the whole hand and doesn't affect "feeling". It can also come from a muscle somewhere that is irritated. People can have quite drastic symptoms from muscles in the neck; there have been times my hand went numb or tingly a lot at night, and during day just lost feeling and dropped scissors; I thought I was having a stroke! Medications can cause such a thing as well. So the long story short, this is something to pass by the doctor. Hope you will let us know if you get an answer.

You mean she isn't aware of it moving? Tremor is one of the primary symptoms of Parkinson's. My mom had essential tremor, which always made me skeptical of the Parkinson's label some doctors gave her.
