My husband is in a long term care nursing home and is on medicaid. Vaccinations of all types are mandatory at the nursing home. My husband and I have both medical and religious reasons to accepting the Covid 19 vaccines. And not to mention, What about those who live in NH that have no family to advocate for them. What can they do? I cannot understand why, no-one is talking about this. I bring this issue up and most don't even see why we are concerned about the vaccine. From what info I have researched, I have no legal recourse to this issue. The only thing I know at the moment is that if push comes to shove I may have to bring him home. I would like to hear from like minded people only. If you disagree, you have that right. Simply move on to another post.

By getting the vaccine you are hopefully keeping your husband safer from Covid and safer to other people he is exposed to

Facilities have to to look at the big picture. If one lives there then one must follow protocols regarding vaccines.

I f you feel capable of bringing him.home and managing his health care with help then do so.

Do you mean your religion prohibits vaccinations? In that case, if the facility requires them, you may have to bring him home or find another facility. Without him being vacinated, he exposes the other residents to COVID. I don't believe you'll have any legal recourse.

No our religion does not prohibit it. My husband has been taking the flu shot that that the NH requires. As for myself, I have not taken a flu shot in 2 yrs now. And have done much better healthwise in not taking it. It is because of our interpretation of the Bible that we are against the Covid-19 vaccine with it's new technology approach that utilizes nano-particles and deals w our DNA.

This is a tough situation for you. Could you look at it another way in that perhaps you are saving your husband from contracting Covid, getting very ill and passing away?

I personally don’t think anyone can force you to get any vaccine. In making that decision however, in this Covid pandemic you’ll have to make the decision to keep him there or take him home. The LTC facility has to take into account everyone’s well being.

This pandemic has made many of us realize we are part of a bigger picture and that our actions can adversely affect others. Many of us must sacrifice for the common good of all during this awful time.

Maybe that’s the one good thing that will come out of this horrible situation. People will have less tunnel vision & take note of the needs of others.

My husband and I believe in the bible. And we believe that the upcoming vaccine is way too close to call in regards to it being The mark of the beast which is prophesied of in Revelation 13:16-18 And although, for right now it is not been said to be mandatory, we anticipate that sometime next year it will become mandatory. There is a lot of double talk of saying that the vaccine is mandatory but then turn around and say you can't go to grocery store, enroll in college, get your social security payment or what have you. In other words people that don't take it will not be able to buy or sell. I have word that NH's and first responders will be able to get the vaccine starting in 2nd week of Dec 2020. I could be wrong about the timing but it is coming. He is in a NH thru the means of Medicaid and thus that makes it mandatory. I myself have been a medical assistant. And have been keeping up with the info concerning the vaccine. It is unlike any previous vaccine. In that it uses technology that deals w our genetic code. MRna Our belief is that per the Bible that accepting the Mark of the Beast will d*mn a person's soul to eternal hell. Which we want no part of it. We are fully persuaded. All this narrative people are falling for about all things Covid related is part of a globalist plan to use Covid as the means by which the powers that be will be able to usher in the New World Order and the New World Religion. Covid is being highly exploited in every aspect of life. For those who say that those who do not take the vaccine will be subjecting everyone else to Covid19. Where is the logic in that? If you believe in the vaccine, then you are immune and therefore would not be subject to those of us who do not take the vaccine. No doubt this is a hot button topic. And as times goes on the covid hysteria will no doubt polarize the entire world into two groups. Those who take the vaccine and those who do not. For us, it's not a matter of if I feel capable of caring for him myself, there will be no other option. Also, the vaccine requires 2 doses and will make you sick. They are already anticipating a lot of first responders being absent from work due to getting sick from the virus. They "say" that it's still better than getting Covid-19 and that getting sick just means the vaccine is working. In a pig's eye. People want to still get it. More power to them. I'm hoping that the rapture of the church will take place before this all starts but if not, we can clearly see persecution of Christians coming in 2021 at some point in time.

Have you spoken to a minister of your faith regarding this problem?

I have followed this issue very VERY closely, and I am a woman of Faith. I have seen ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about religious objections to this vaccine, or have I seen any references from legitimate Faith based sources about objections of any kind to legitimate medical care directed towards dealing with the tragic consequences of this horrifying virus.

You Will of course need to devote serious time in prayer and reflection to this before you make a final decision. Since he is a Medicaid client, you are likely to be required to meet the terms of Medicaid rules for care.

My LO, also a woman of deep Faith, has recovered once from Covid at age 92, and may be experiencing symptoms of the disease a second time. I would be sure in my heart that any religion that didn’t protect her from continuing sickness was NOT a TRUE FAITH.

Let your heart be open and seek the TRUTH. This is a NOVEL VIRUS, and ways of addressing it must consider modern science AND BELIEVERS’ FAITH

I will hold your concerns in my daily prayer for those who suffer..

There’s going to be a NH somewhere that will allow residents not in compliance with Covid regulations. But you should expect facility to be private pay single room OR pay extra for increased staffing costs due to not being in vaccine compliance OR end up in 1 or 2 NH that allows Covid go wild / let nature run it’s course... if you get it, too bad so sad.

I cannot imagine the challenges of trying to staff a NH that ignores taking precautions that can contain Covid. Just who will work there?

If you want state support.... like you want Medicaid to pay for his room & board ..... you’re required to be in compliance whether it’s doing a copay of income to the facility each month or a flu shot.

Medicaid for kids - CHIP - already has vaccine compliance as part of their requirements. States that have highest CHIP # enrolled also have highest vaccination rates (like Mississippi) and they have the lowest rates of childhood diseases outbreaks. The system is set up for vaccine compliance within Medicaid & data shows benefits of the requirements. I’m sure there are be those that file for a waiver for CHIP but kids tend to age out of getting the vaccine related diseases. This isn’t the case for Covid & those over 70..... you age into being Covid +.

& as an aside on this issue, Quantas Airlines will be REQUIRING proof of Covid vaccination in order to fly within their systems.
Not negative Covid test but show you got 1 of the approved vaccines.
Now you may be all “why should I care” well imho it will matter. Cause rest of the world is enforcing rules to keep the pandemic from tanking their health, happiness and economy any further than it already has.

You cannot be forced to get a vaccine. But don’t expect empathy.

I agree w you. As far as empathy, I know there will be none. Matter of fact those who do not go along with the narrative will be persecuted. I have no doubts about that. Who would work at no vax NH? Medical personnel that will loose their jobs because they refuse the vax because of their faith in Jesus Christ. We already know that we all will encounter immense loss of any and all aspects of life to the point of death. I make none of my statements lightly. A terrible man-made-manipulated virus super virus and it is being used for to roll out what will be a globalist plan that has been orchestrated over centuries by globalists, elites and what have you. As I write this there is a possibility that I have contracted it. So I have no castles in the sky about all this. My husband and I simply believe that there are some things that are worth giving up our lives for. And that is freedom.

I feel that it hasn't been tested long enough to determine what the side effects will be long term. And who is to say that you'll get this vaccine and COVID won't mutilate into another strain and it starts all over.

Just like the Flu shot. Thats hit and miss. Its what strains they "think" will be around that season. Last year that didn't work. Another strain presented itself. My DH got sick everytime he got the shot.

Sorry, have no answers for you. I don't know how any facility can give u a shot for anything without written permission. I think I had to give it for my Mom to get a flu shot at the NH. She never got them before but I didn't want to take the chance of her contracting it.

My hubby has been there for 4 yrs, flu shot is required but they still have to ask my permission first. I presume that if I didn't agree, then he would not be allowed to stay there. No doubt we are all in new territory. We all have to pick our battles on what we are willing to let slide and what we do not. True I know I will be taking on a 24/7 caregiver situation if he comes home. And I know that is very likely that both of us end up in a quarantine camp, either together or separated. I would imagine we would be separated. The thing I can't get people to understand is, that the old America we knew and loved is gone. The Great Reset is projected to roll out in April or May 2021 Check out the World Economic Forum.com I can't seem to get fellow Christians to understand that if the Lord tarries His return we will be facing persecution in the USA and that the kind of decisions made will be on the same level as if we were in war.

Were I you I would prepare now to take your DH back into your home, and to do 24/7 care. I think we can't know now what the rules will be Country to Country, State to State, and Facility to Facility. In a pandemic we are basically flying by the seat of our pants, as they say.
I will be first in any line for the vaccine, once approved. At 78 I now miss my bus rides more than I can tell you. And my junk shopping! Is there a chance of a side effect? Oh, of course. There's a chance of a side effect if I walk down my stairs today, given these knees. I will let you know when I get it and you can see if I survive it. I did great with the regular flu vaccine this year. Always do. But of course, as an atheist, it may not affect me in quite the same way.

In my opinion God helps those who help themselves. Yes I am a Christian too but feel that the science was also created by man who was created by God. He gives us the brains and ability to use them to create a vaccine that can help us all.

Sure there will be side effects of some sort. But I plan to get the vaccine nonetheless. What do I have to lose? Getting Covid vs not or getting a less severe case and developing antibodies against it? I am not going to live in fear.

Respectfully I don’t believe in folks who read the Bible and then cite their interpretation on me or any of us. No one can predict the end of days. My faith doesn’t work that way. God gives us free will to either accept the science or not. It’s your choice not to but it’s hard for me to fantom the Bible telling me not to.
Of course you believe what you want to believe.

I understand putting your faith in God. I believe God is great and knows what He is doing. But I also believe in science. I guess that is the nurse in me. I’ve seen God save many sick people via science.

First you state you are a Christian, then later on you say you do not believe the Bible. That to me is a contradiction in terms, unless perhaps you reverence some other book that some religions use. I apologize I should have been more precise. I was looking for born-again Bible believing Christians. Before my disability I was a medical assistant. So certainly there is a time and a place for science. Revelation 13 speaks of "the mark of the beast" those who accept that mark will be damned to hell. Is the rona vax the mark of the beast? I don't know. However if it is connected w not being able to buy or sell, that will be confirmation that indeed it is. I prefer to get the rona virus and die and be w Jesus Christ than the alternative. And for the flip side of that, my logic is this. Those that get the vaccine need not be concerned w those of us unvaxxed people because you have the antibodies to be immune. So, why should I be compelled to concede my convictions? All that being said. Each person has a right to their own opinion. So I allow you that privilege.

This is a hot topic within the Christian community alone. As I stated in my original post. I was looking for like minded people to answer. All others need simply to move on to another post. For those who think I am crazy. This only solidifies my convictions. It amazes me to no end how many people think that any president has the power to change things or to the extremes that it is attributed to that president to achieve. What happened to the Senate, Congress, House of Representatives and on down? The mass populace is in a weird state of trance or sleep. And oh so trusting. There is an old joke I think Pres Reagan said it. You have to be concerned when someone walks up to you and states I'm from the government and I've come to help. As for the vax. Do you know what all is in this "new" corona vax? This is new. Unlike past vax's it uses "technology" and works on a genetic level. Bill and Melinda Gates foundation has their finger in all the vaccine manufacturers businesses. They are globalists. They also wholeheartedly support depopulation efforts for the entire world. As far as being selfish. I submit to you that those who are not interested in knowing what they are getting into, that are only interested in just getting their shot so they can go back to work and be left alone to do whatever fancies them. That's what I call selfish. Yes, I too believe God gave us doctors and meds to help us. The thing is we now live in a period of time where monetary gratifications outweighs caring about their neighbor. Why is it, We have access to more healthcare than ever before and yet we have more sick people now than ever. And many people who will be on meds for the rest of their lives. Which can be good but certainly not great. Our society is awash in corrupt politicians, doctors, lawyers, preachers who spew out lies sprinkled w a little truth here and there. As for God helping those who help themselves. Somebody please show me the verse in the Bible where that is said. Jesus said to love our neighbor as ourselves. To take up our cross and follow Him. To study His word to show ourselves approved. To work. And those who wish to be great, will be servants of all. Apostasy in the church is rampant. People no longer want truth. They want someone like Joel Olsteen or many others to tell them how wonderful they are. Our societies current theme is "It's all about me". God help us all.

Polio was awful! Thank God that the vaccine for polio was created.

Well straight up I'll admit I'm not a Christian. I loved Bible stories as a kid but lost religion in Sunday School when not allowed to colour Joseph's technicolour coat any colour I wanted.

Anyhoo.. if you don't want a vaccine, you should have the right to refuse in my opinion. If you understand the risk & accept it. If your DH cannot but you are MPOA, then same.

I can predict a future when the local hardware requires a mask & proof of vaccine to enter. As a private store they can add whatever rules they like - or can they?

It's going to be one huge ball of stress to work out the legal / religious / ethics of it.

That is part of being human! Otherwise it is all survival of the fittist or at God's will.

I have a born again Christian friend. Besides thinking Bill Gates is installing microchips, Hillary owns a pizza parlor and drinks childrens blood, she also believes Don Jr is the antichrist and the rest of the family are the "trumpets" in revelation signaling the end of days. I usually need a drink after all of that.

Based upon your interpretation of the Bible, you have the choice for vaccination or not. The problem with interpretation is, I am assuming, you are dealing with an English translation rather than actual text. You know that telephone game from Girl Scouts.

You have the choice to vaccinate or not. Your right to such freedoms should not infringe on other people's choices. There are consequences to all decisions. If you and your husband decide to bring him home rather than get a vaccine, best of luck.

This is beginning to sound more like a political and personal belief than a religious argument.

If the facility or Medicaid has requirements to take the vax, ready yourself and home for him to become your 24/7 responsibility.

Is there a religious or political or personal sense of responsibility to others?

I am sure that hubs had to have a chest xray an update a whole battery of immunizations before being admitted to NH. Why would covid vaccine be different?

Eeyore,
If you are here to ask a question re your husband and his future as it involves Covid-19, then the simple answer is that every facility, city, county, state and country can and will make it's rules as regards our current virus.
If you don't wish to follow their rules, and choose instead to bring your DH home, them then we will be here to support your doing that.
That's the easy answer.
If you are here to argue religion or to preach the existence of a God as you understand him or her to be, then you are likely on the wrong forum IMHO (although there are, in "Discussions" below several lovely threads created by those who are practicing a religion; you may enjoy them, and I would think would be very welcome there.).
Many of us are not religious at all, some of us--I include myself--don't believe in a god or an afterlife of any kind and never did; we think it is nonsense. Not a choice of ours, just a lack of belief. Some of us are of differing religions from yours and subscribe to different Gods and/or religious texts. Goodness, we may even have a few Wiccans, I am told. I am certain THOSE people think their religion and their book is the "right" one, and yours is not.
The point is that this really isn't a Forum created for the discussion of politics or religion. Reason being that things tend often to go all divisive bickering and anger when EITHER politics OR religion are argued, and while just a few of us who enjoy the occ. Rabbinical argument, most of us don't; no minds are changed. We are all good people here, and most would give you the proverbial shirt off his or her back were you in trouble.
I've seen several posts of yours this very day offering wonderful advice as regards care for our elders. It's my hope you'll continue to give that good advice as regards AgingCare.

Fascinating thread to read.

Eeyore, I am a staunch Christian--and I truly believe that the scientists who have created the vaccines have been blessed and guided by a loving God. Reigious people all over the world have prayed and fasted for these people.

Saying this is a hot topic among Christians--I beg to disagree. Your comments are actually the FIRST I have heard at all. Most people want this DONE!

Yes, this vaccine has been fast tracked like nothing before. And thank GOD for that. BTW, my SIL did his PhD partially in virology. I asked him about the COVID vax and he laughed and said "I can TELL you about it, but I can't UNDERSTAND it for you". In essence, 99.99% of the world cannot comprehend the science behind it.

Salk, Fleming, Pastuer, Curie--all scientists who worked to make the world a safer and better place. No doubt had their opponents.

You think people didn't doubt Sir Alexander's discovery of penicillin?

You have the absolute right to refuse the vaccine. But you don't have the right to choose for ME whether I get it--and you may very likely not get the right to choose for your DH.

I used to say this to my kids: "Your 'right' to swing your arms about wildly ends at the tip of my nose."

I worry about this too. My mother (age 82) in memory care had a mild case of corona virus in June. The CDC web site says it's probably OK to get a vaccine anyway even if you already had the virus, but no one really knows. Not reassuring! In a virtual care plan meeting, I asked the head of nursing for my mother's area if she could tell me about any future policies for requiring COVID-19 vaccines. She's a very intelligent, very competent woman who's been working there for many years, but she was caught off-guard by my question and had absolutely no answer. It seems strange that no one at the organization is even thinking about it?? You're not alone in your concerns.

Shingles once, shingles forever. The little b******s lie dormant in your nerve cells, then jump out and bite you when you're down - e.g. after an accident, a heavy cold, emotional strain.

I don't know, but it's possible that the shingles vaccine does something to repress them I suppose? I'd query that point with the doctor, actually, because otherwise what's the idea? He's already been inoculated, accidentally!

Good ol' NHS - here's (part of) what they say about it:

"It's fine to have the shingles vaccine if you've already had shingles. The shingles vaccine works very well in people who have had shingles before and it will boost your immunity against further shingles attacks."

I checked the verses that upset you, Revelation 13:16-18. They say: “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six”.

I am sorry that this is causing you so much distress. Could you perhaps have the vaccine in your upper arm, instead of in your right hand? I’m not sure that it will leave a mark at all, so you may be OK. Believe in the love of Christ, which will surely overcome Satan.

Interesting. The Jehovah Witnesses I believe take a verse from the bible about not "taking the blood" of another to mean no transfusions. Which of course weren't done that I know of in biblical times, nor even imagined. For me the taking of the blood of another would be to spill their blood in anger. Otherwise even a surgeon would be precluded from using the scalpel. But it is all very interesting for Bible Studies and Rabbinical argument. That I know of, those arguments are seldom won!

Thanks for the feedback to my comment about shingles.

I got my shingles vaccine at my last doctor’s appointment.

I also had my labs done that day. I was talking to the lab technician about getting my shingles vaccine.

She said she had shingles twice and was looking forward to getting her vaccine. I asked her why she didn’t get it before?

She said that she couldn’t because she is 49 years old and they won’t give the vaccine until age 50.

She said the first time she got shingles was near her hip and the next time was near her eye.

Shingles is very painful. I feel for people who get it.

CM for once I’m not sure if you are right about shingles. They come to people who have had chicken pox. That stays dormant in the system forever, and can pop up much later as shingles. My DH had a mild dose of shingles years ago, and then more recently had a bad repeat. He was told this was unusual and occurred because the first episode was so mild. My MIL had recurrent itches in her head long after a bad dose, but didn’t have actual shingles (blisters etc) again.

OZ is now providing free vaccine to people over 65 who have had chicken pox (almost everyone) but not shingles. There was a previous vaccine that was not totally effective, but the new one has a good reputation. I’ve had it, but DH was ineligible because he had already had a major episode that should already have provided immunity. Yours, Margaret
