He was diagnosed with vascular dementia in May and since then he has fallen off the deep end. He is agitated 24/7, he hates my mother who is his caretaker and the sweetest person. He has been going psycho lately, he tried to punch her, thrown anything he could get his hands on and it has gotten to the point where I’m scared to leave her alone with him. I’m only 19 and don’t know how to handle this. He is so biligerent and mean. We want to get him into a home considering I have a 13 year old brother who my dad also hates. He tried to run him over with the lawn mower yesterday. Please help, since this started, I now have insomnia and am on anti anxiety medications. My dad also refuses to go to the doctor and they tried him on 3 different kinds of anti anxiety and depression medicines but they all made him worse. His speech is awful and we can barely understand him at all. If you have any suggestions please help because I am going insane.

Find Care & Housing
Helppls,
Your father is abusive, he needs to be removed from the home, whether he is in his right mind or not.

The next time he starts to be violent, call the police. I know you don't want to do that but better that than him hurting anyone. Do NOT put up with the violence because it will only get worse.

Be sure to have your mom call his doctor and explain ALL the attempts to hurt her and your brother.

Call Adult Protective Services and Child Protective Services also to have him assessed. They will come to the home. If he is that trigger tempered, he won't be able to hide it.
They will find he is a danger to your family and will have him removed from the home.

I'm so sorry that this is happening to you and your family. You need to put yourselves first in this situation.

P.S. Men rarely get UTI's. It can happen but it's rare.

Helppls, time to have your Dad tested for an Urinary Tract Infection as such an infection can sometimes cause an older person to become violent.
