True about the 2000 when it comes to paying for a nursing home. My nephew is allowed to make a certain amount of money and still receive medical benefits thru the state of NJ. SSD does not count as income.

JoAnn29: Apparently you ARE allowed to have both, but Medicaid allows you to only own $2, 000 of assets.

When ur in a nursing facility you have what ever Medical you had before you entered the facility. If 65 and up that would Medicare and any supplimental you chose. Medicaid pays for the cost of you living at the facility.

My nephew is on SSD. Medicare is his primary, medicaid his secondary. With Medicaid he has NJ Horizon and United Health for his perscriptions which he gets help for. He also gets glasses and Dental thru medicaid.

Why are you moving her? That is going to be very difficult for her even under the best of circumstances and could even end her life.

T may be more reasonable to hire a nurse to ride with you if you can put her in a car for the trip.
