Moving an ICU patient to another state without health insurance. Can it be done?

With and unconscious person following a brain aneurysm, your first concern would have to be whether it's even safe to move him, whether the doctors would even agree to such a move.

If your dad reaches a state where he COULD be moved, or even during the time as you are waiting to discover whether he may be recovering or not, you could be investigating through the social workers at the hospital if there are any groups at do free medical transportation for compassionate reasons. So much depends on the ongoing evaluation of your dad situation.

If he is in the ICU he is probably to sick to be moved. Once he is "stable" you can request the hospital transfer him. Ask the social worker what if any protocols are there and if there is any agency that can help with transfer costs.

Why would anyone try to move a patient in ICU? Not allowed in most hospitals, I assume. Let the relatives come to HIM.

I think right now you are overwhelmed with your Dad's situation..I would just focus my thoughts on his full recovery.. If you can't be with him at the hospital you can call daily and check in with the staff..Also ask the Dr to call you and give you updates..

Do not move this patient to another hospital. Go to wherever he is and be with him until such time he is conscious/stable, then think about what you want to do.
