I have been told that my cousin's needs have changed and they are re-evaluating her for more skilled care. She is in Assisted Living now and has done well until she recently fell and fractured her spine and then her hand. She now is in wheelchair since she can't use her walker due to her hand being broken.

She can stand and get in and out of bed with assistance of one person. She can also use the bathroom, but she suffers from significant dementia and is refusing to get out of bed in the morning. She's using the bathroom on herself and won't let them clean her.

Can they transfer her to their nursing home next door? Will a Dementia Unit at another facility be a better choice for someone like her?

I'm meeting with the director tomorrow about this. How long will they give me to make alternate arrangements for her care?

Unfortunately it is time to move her. Assisted Living is only for patients who are able to cooperate with staff. The easiest transition is to the nursing home in the same facility. She will likely meet up with people she knows from the AL side.

The staff gets to decide. They are the ones who do all the daily cares, and if they say she needs to move and have given adequate reason (as it sounds they have) there is really nothing you can do. Who is paying the bill here? If you are, and you dont want her to move, and habe Medical as well as Financial POA, you could find a different facility, maybe. But most likely any other facility will decide she need higher level of care.
I know it gets very expnsivee

most assisted living unit sometimes have skilled nursing next to them but check them out before transfering family member and always check out place unannounced so you can really see what they are about and if there is call light out side the doors time it to see how long it takes to get answered or beware of smells and if your gut is telling you no check someplace else but always visit your family member unannounced if staff not expecting you then you can see exactly how things are done, I have past experience with this I used to work at Nursing facilties and saw alot of different things good and bad wont go into but anything can happen

It will depend on the facility and their interpretation of "if she meets criteria to remain in assisted living" you can not op to transfer her to skilled nursing/nursing home side this requires a Doctors order
