Hello all
My mother suffered her 3rd stroke and since then we feed her using nasogastric tube. Since suffering from the 3rd stoke, my mother's mouth has been open and her tong has been slightly out for almost 3 weeks now. However since 2 days my mother started closing her mouth and she wont open it easy even if I try to open it, I fee she resist that ( I want to open it wash it). I also noticed that she is moving her jaws like she is chewing a gum.

What does that mean (closing her mouth)?

Thank you very much

PS: my mother is 84 years old

My MIL had a stroke last summer. Now that you bring it up it seems she was also doing the jaw movement like she was chewing gum. I wonder if it is cauaed by dry mouth and wanting something moisturizing in her mouth. Have you tried the mini mouth sponges to try to get some water in her mouth? Maybe she would open her mouth if you put a small amount of water on her lips? Don't know, just a guess that her mouth must be very dry.
