Find Care & Housing
My 93 YO MIL is in MC, and she sleeps most of the day.. but otherwise is healthy as a horse! She has been this way for a few years.. She can fall asleep in the middle of an activity! My FIl is awake and with it most of the day, and health wise in much worse shape. So I think it is a think that depends on the person.

My husband was sleeping 20 hours a day when we called in hospice. He died 5 weeks later. I wish I had called in hospice earlier. It is a very helpful program for both the patient and the carer.

I suggest asking for an evaluation by hospice. You are not obligated to use the service, but their perspective on Mother's status can be useful.

Yes, it could be. My mom slept probably 18-20 hours a day at the beginning of the end. Though a flu shot she had about two years before she passed really knocked her out for a few days. Then returned to her normal 12-15 hours of sleep each day.

Mother is in a Senior Facility. She is 100 years old. She gets up at 8:30 am, I help her shower several mornings a week, and every day help her dress and we go to breakfast in the DR. She sits at the table a little while to read the newspaper then when she asks to go to her apartment because she is sleepy, we do so. She wakes when my son stops in for a short hello and chat. She sleeps until lunch time but wakes for her eyedrops and am pills, Same thing at lunch time, Same thing at dinner with wakes ups for pill time and another visit from my son on his way home from work. She just started Silver Sneakers 3 days a week for the last 15 minutes of the class before lunch. Every other day or so we go out to visit a friend or out to lunch or to drive thru errands so she doesn't have to get out of the car. She likes getting out and going for rides. She also likes entertainment that is brought in and occasionally plays bingo. She stayed up 4 hours on her 100th birthday when we had a big party for her. Since her party she has been a bit more animated and doing more things on her own. It is normal for elderly to sleep alot. We are blessed by a loving family relationship and that she is social and engages while up. She usually sleeps from 15 to 18 hours a day. This is a good.
