My first step would be to contact Adult Protective Services in your area and explain the situation to them. They may be able to point you in the right direction. Then find out if you have an agency for the aged in your area that can possibly offer some assistance with respite care (so you can get a break) and possibly also point in you the right direction to help your mom understand the situation. If she has dementia, this is not going to be an easy task - just fair warning.
