fost40, I find that most people don't plan ahead for their golden years, unless they see it happen to their parents or siblings. Thus had others to learn from.

I know for my parents who were in their 90's, their Wills were older than dirt, thus I quickly got them into seeing an Elder Law Attorney to have the Will updated to current laws. It wasn't easy getting my folks to go in, I had to use a therapeutic fib on my Dad by telling him that the way his old Will was written, that the State would get half of his estate. Dad was ready to dial the phone.

For myself, I never realize how expensive it was to grow old here in the States. My gosh the cost of Independent Senior Living, the cost of Assisted Living, and the cost of hiring caregivers. One has to be very fugal or win the lottery !!

I spoke to my siblings and we are going (3 out of 5) to the funeral place that buried my dad and aunt to see if we can prepay for her funeral. Thanks for everyone feedback

If you eventually can find burial insurance for your Mom, double check when the insurance would come into affect. Some insurances may say there is no pay out during the first year, only the second year and later.

Fost40, that is an excellent idea. Let the funeral director know that money is tight so he/she can give the family some suggestions.
