Dilantin can cause mental status changes, I would speak to her doctor and discuss the recent moodiness and increase in her medication.

My husband takes Dilantin(3 -100 mg at night) for his seizures, along with 2 other seizure medicines, and hasn't had any adverse effects from any of them. He's been on it for years. I would report these changes to her Dr and see what he thinks/says.

If it is the medication causing these changes, there are lots of other seizure medicines to try. Good Luck.

The usual prescribed dose is exactly what your mother’s doctor prescribed.

If you have concerns call doctor and inform him.

Yes for sure, Dilantin has been around for ages. It’s effective as well. I’ve not seen adverse reactions to it but everyone is different.

So, is the moodiness etc. a change in mental staus since starting the Dilantin? Have you reported these to the prescribing doctor?

Dilantin has been around for a VERY long time and its side effects are well known. Talk to the doc about what changes you see.

And consider that she may need meds for her mental health conditions in addition to meds for seizures, if the moodiness was not CAUSED by the Dilantin.
