Find Care & Housing
She doesn't have to sell her home to qualify for medicaid help. But they will do what some call the "clawback" after her death if the house is sold; medicaid will recover what funds they can, will have a lien on the home. All other assets she will have to "spend down" including such things as insurance policies with a cash value and so on. You should get the Medicare Medicaid handbooks and visit the site. There will be a 2 1/2 (California) to 5 year (most other states) lookback on expenditures to insure she did not "gift money" to anyone. You will need 5 years of banks statements if she goes on medicaid, or you are applying for it.

Your profile says u are caring for Dad.

Medicaid does allow Caregivers, if living with the person they are caring for a specific time, to remain in the home but I think u may have to prove you can pay taxes and bills. The best thing you could do was sit down with a casework or call since the offices maybe closed for COVID.

So, without knowing your state and circumstances...

First, figure out if you are in a state with TEFRA leins. Then answer, did you provide care for at least 2 years which allowed your mom to stay home rather than go into a nursing home while living in the home...fyi, making meals, household chores, etc does not count. Would leaving the house create a undo hardship?

You have not given enough information to get an answer.
