Mom with Alzheimer's now totally urine incontinent, but still uses Bsc only to wet bed etc. Any advice?

How low is her sodium, and is the doctor concerned about it?

Most of us here are "fixers". Until you can't fix "it" without throwing something else out of whack. Sleep is of paramount importance in the hierarchy of human needs, right up there with shelter and food.

Just wanted to comment on the one piece sleeping attire. My son has sever autism. As a child he would take off his pjs and diaper and pee in his room. Another parent suggested one piece sleepers put on backwards. This worked like a charm until he got older and onesies for teen/adults became hard to find. A mail order store called Big Feet Pajamas solved my problem. They make footed one piece pjs for children and adults. Since my son wears them backwards I cut the feet off and for summer I just cut the arms off and shorten the legs. No more peeing in inappropriate places and usually when he has a night time accident the pull up -having stayed in place does the job. They have a web site - they run about $40 a pair. My son is now 22yrs old and 6'1" and he still wears them every night.

I'm not sure I understand the issue. She wants to use the bedside commode (BSC), but doesn't make it, so wets the bed? You use pull-ups, but she takes them off?

Can you get her a 1-piece jumpsuit that she can't take off (closes in the back) and put her in some pull-ups on the nights you're alone? Is the main issue she's not sleeping, or she's wetting the bed, or both?

I can't keep her dry and both of us are losing sleep. Should I let her sleep even though wet? Can I change thru one piece or have to tske whole thing off? She pees on herself and floor because she can't make it to Bsc. Just ground out her sodium is low. I think problem began after being on prednisone one week. It has made her pee continuously and now. Sodium low. Don't know what dr will do. Maybe Gatorade?

Babies sleep through the night with wet diapers. As long as you get her dried out and rinsed off in the morning, I think she'd be OK. Maybe cut her fluids after 6 PM or so, so she's not peeing a whole lot through the night. The one-piece things are basically a jumpsuit that opens in the back. So you could take it down and change her and pull it back up.

Talk to her doctor about how to fix her sodium level. Is she on a diuretic? That can cause a lot of peeing and low sodium. Again, you need to talk to her doctor about that.

Thankyou Blannie for your response . Never had children so didn't know it's ok .the low sodium concerns me. I think it was triggered by short term prednisone. She is not on diuretics, meanwhile I'll get some gatorade

If she is more active at night, you should ask dr for sleeping pills or sedatives. Regarding the diapers and the pajamas, I agree with Blannie. You should get a one piece to prevent her from taking them off. I also agree with the issue about her sodium. My husband had the same issue and we ended in the hospital with mineral deficiency issues. Not easy. Maybe this is why she is urinating so much. Hope all gets well and you can get some rest. BTW Pravail 360 Breezers are the best diaper for excessive urine problems, but they are briefs not pull ups.
