1/pk pb crackers. 1/2 cup cereal on a good day. Pint of water. Mom has gone from eating good for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and snacks. Then, she went to eating carbs, small cup coffee breakfast, cup cereal. Yogurt for lunch and a little for Dinner then onto dessert. I have tried no desserts, persuading with fruits, vegetable, cooking only fav foods etc. And she has stage 3 kidney disease and only drinks now about a pint of water per day. No other liquid drinks.
I am at my wits end with everything. So tired. When should i be concerned enough to contact physician? Or, go to ER etc. Last MD visit I informed Mom's PCP which is an internal medicine and Geriatric MD of her eating habits and was informed to try any thing to get her to eat and drink. I have been doing that.
I know so many of you have gone thru this. I need your expertise and experience. Thanks in advance.

Have her kidney numbers been checked recently? I think what those above suggested are good ideas. Contact her kidney doctor to find out her present condition and go from there. You are doing a great job, don't doubt yourself. You may be nearing the time to just keep mom company and comfortable. Best of luck

I never forced my mom to eat. I never forced my husband to eat. I think I may have mentioned it to both of their doctors, but I understood their bodies were slowing down. Our bodies learn to adjust to what we give them. Water, frankly, is more important than food. A pint of water doesn't seem like much, but it may be enough.

Make sure food and water is available. Remind her occasionally.keep meals very small and feed her more often as she finishes or otherwise shows she's finished.

I think it is past time to be concerned. Do you have POA in place so you can speak to her doctor? You need to make him/her understand that what you are trying hasn't worked and she is in desperate need of intervention. Is it perhaps time to involve hospice? They should have the expertise to guide you in this if the doctor is unwilling to.
