She called my house and asked my husband why I didn't call her when I got home. I wasn't with my mom that day. She thought I was with her until 4 am. Then the next day she called my brother and asked if my father was over his house. He's been dead for over 5 years. This sudden change in her mental state has me concerned.

"All of a sudden" odd behaviors, hallucinations and memory lapses like this means she needs to see a doctor right away. She may have a UTI, or become dehydrated, or she may have fallen and hit her head or had a stroke, or taken too much medication or she's had a toxic reaction to something in her environment...the possibilities are varied, but SOMETHING happened and she needs to be checked out.

My husband has slight dementia. He is sweet most of the time, but has sudd,en outbursts of anger at me with little reason. It is hard to know how to respond and I feel hurt because I try so hard to take care of him.

Take her to Dr now.. She could always have an UTI which may be the reason for her sudden change.

I agree with ba8alou, but I'd add that your mother should be seen today. A sudden change of behavior could indicate a recent trauma that she may not be able to recall such as a bump on the head or fall.
