The place to get strong is rehab. If you take her home with outpatient therapy, she won't comply. In rehab, she will have company and some motivation to get up and move.

Support the doctor's suggestion. DO NOT TAKE MOM HOME! She needs time to grow stronger and the place to do that in a rehab center.

For her own good let her go to rehab. If not, she could possibly just get weaker and weaker and more dependent on you. My own Mother had to go to the hospital, rehab and then, NH. She is 95 and the NH has been a God send.

HOLD YOUR GROUND. Agree with the MD and tell her either rehab or a nursing home. If she starts yelling and throwing things, like my MIL did, just grab your coat and leave. Let the head nurse know on the way out that she is being "totally non-compliant" and scaring her roommate. Don't go back for three days while they do attitude adjustment. NO BAILOUT.
