My mom had Parkinson’s too, and it was hard to understand her sometimes for the same reason you mention, especially over the phone. We would have to remind her to try to speak louder and/or to bring the phone up to her mouth instead of under her chin. One thing that would help, at least for a while, was speech therapy. Medicare covered it if her doctor ordered it. I believe she would receive it for six weeks at a time. She didn’t always continue the exercises on her own and would eventually get another order for therapy. The Parkinson Foundation webinars were very helpful to me, especially for the non-movement related symptoms my mom had. Hope this helps.

My father in law has Parkinson's and I guessed soemthing was wrong before he shared his diagnosis, based on his voice on the phone.

He had speech therapy early on and told us he felt like he was shouting, when he was barely talking at a normal level.

Connect with a speech therapist and see what they suggest.

Parkinson’s disease effects everyone differently. Some people’s speech does gradually change.
