Find Care & Housing
How long has she had dementia? A small percentage of people have aphasia, so they cannot think of words to speak. My husband has that. It is very frustrating to him.

*How is her hearing? Maybe she's not responding because she can't hear what's going on. My mother's hearing went just like that! Good one day and now we scream so she can hear us.
*Do you know what stage of dementia she's in?
*Are you right in front of her and look her in the eyes when you talk to her? Does she look back? Does she "try" to talk and can't?
*Did she start any new medicine lately?
*Does she exhibit any other signs of depression such as excessive sleeping, poor eating, no interest in favorite things or people, keeps her eyes closed but is awake?
*Is she in pain?
*Will she attempt to talk to a loved one on the phone?
If you could provide a lot more information, it would be easier to answer you.
