My Mom seems to be very jealous of mine and my sisters relationship. My mom is in a wheelchair but she has a paratransit bus so she can go shopping if she wants to. anyone can ride with her. I just do not understand why she does not want to go any where?

She probably goes places when no one is looking. She is grandstanding for your attention, she still wants to be the queen bee. Don't give in.

Be thankful. Our problem was just the opposite. There is nothing wrong with being happy in your own house. Maybe the girlie chatter is just too much for her.

Tell us a little more about Mom. How old? Any dementia? Signs of depression? Are you living together? Your home or hers? For how long?

A few more details will get more specific responses.

my mom is 77 she lost her left leg from the knee down due to the lack of hygene. she is on zoloft for depression,my brother lives with her and takes care of her. she lost her leg last November. we did everything we could to make her house comfortable for her, wheelchair accessible we totally remodeled her bed room, bathroom and kitchen. she hates everything.

cndypep1, was she the kind of person who hated just about every thing before her leg was amputated? Or is this attitude new? By poor hygiene do you perhaps mean poor wound care practices? Was she living alone then?

Is she self-conscious about her leg? Has she always been a private kind of person?

I wonder, too, if she is in a kind of mourning for her leg and for her life as it used to be.

It sounds to me like Mother needs to see a therapist, for depression and perhaps other issues. A chance to talk about her life and an adjustment/change in medication to get her body chemicals back in balance might do her a world of good. Has she had anything like that since November? Is she seeing a counselor regularly now?

no i mean bathing and such, no she showed everyone h er leg she calls it stumpy, i had a harder time than she did with the loss.she refuses all therapy, visiting nurse is the only one she will see. she has had her meds adjusted several times and she still will not do what she is supposed to do. we told her if she does not do what the dr and therapist want her to do she will end up in hosp again and will not come home.

Maybe, just maybe, she now has a phobia of being out in public.... sometimes medicines can cause that side effect... it has happened to me with fillers used in some pills. Same prescribed pills but a different manufacturer, thus different set of fillers used to make the pill large enough to handle and to bind together.
