My mom is in a nursing home on Medicaid. If she goes home, does Medicaid continue to provide care at home? If so, how does it work? Can she go off Medicaid and return to receiving her Social Security and pension?

I hope that someone else can give you specifics, but I do know that Medicaid will not provide anything like the 24/7 care that your mom gets now. She might be entitled to a bath aide once a week and some home attend entry time a couple of hours a week. Would that be enough care for her?

People don't end up in nursing homes paid for by Medicaid without an extensive review of heir needs. It is most likely that she needs round the clock care. Before you decide to take home, please do some reading on the site.

Thank you. I am trying to see what the financial options are first. If Mediaid does not cover much, then I assume she could return to Medicare and her Social Security and pension, right?

If your Mom is in a nursing home on Medicaid, that means she cannot afford to live at home unless you plan to be her Caregiver for 168 hours a week... meaning you would do the work of three Caregivers working each an 8 hour shift. You won't get much sleep.

Go to the blue bar near the top of this page, click on "Senior Living" and click on the different items. It will give you more of an idea of what would be expected.
