My elderly father lives with us. We have caregivers paid for by Medicaid to assist my husband and I in taking care of my father. If I were to charge my father rent for his room in our house, would that be considered an allowable expense of my father's for Medicaid to consider when figuring out how much his Patient Co-pay is that he has to pay the caregiving company for his caregivers? He is on a very limited income and only receives a small amount from Social Security and a very small VA pension every month. The VA pension kicked up his income, which is why Medicaid charges him a Patient Co-Pay for his caregivers.

Medicaid would only allow a written agreement drawn up by an attorney for share-of-cost. You should also know that if you are a POA or Guardian, you can NOT pay yourself, it is a conflict of interest.
