Signed up for Medicaid and they are asking us to pay more than what my LO brings in? Why is this? I've sent Medicaid two letters already telling them they are asking for more than what my mom is getting and they have never answered. Getting them on the phone is a joke...they don't return calls, they ask you to send them documentation and they never follow up, claim they didn't get it, or misplace it?

Also, Social Security just sent us a letter saying it will not be paying for Part B, so her check will be $200 less? I am new to all this, any ideas on what should I do?

There is a difference between Community Medicaid and NH Medicaid. Probably best if you went into the Medicaid office and spoke to someone in person.

If mom is in nursing home, isn't there a Social Worker on staff to help you negotiate these things. My dad was in several places and I found out there were good social workers and no so good ones, but if you can track down a good one they are generally very knowledgeable in providing answers off the top of their heads or knowing how to find out and cut through the red tape.

I agree, go in person. Easier to understand and ask questions. Take all Moms financials with you. Even the letter of being turned down. Since to get Medicaid you have to use all assets to pay for her care (house is allowed) so she has only the 2k (or less) allowed.

Family is not responsible for Moms bills. You can't pay what Mom doesn't have.

Mom had a caseworker. I emailed everything he needed. He would confirm receipt. I was also given a list of things I had to get together and check off as I got them done. He confirmed, by email, when he had everything.

Not sure exactly what your situation is here, but I'll try to guess. Is mom living at home and not in a nursing home, and you are trying to sign her up for public benefits? Did you apply for the state Medicare Savings Program? That's where the state pays the federal Medicare Premium for low income folks on federal Medicare. If you got a letter stating that Medicare will be deducting her premium from her Social Security it is likely that she has income that is too high, has assets too high, or didn't get all the paperwork in. If the state Medicaid program says you have to pay, are you talking about her share of medical costs during the approval period? Do you mean this is like her deductible on a spend down before the Medicaid starts picking up the rest of her costs? If this is not the situation please provide more details.

Profile says she is already in a nursing home.

Yes we need more details. Your profile says your Mother is in a nursing home so this is for nursing home long term Medicaid? And you’re saying they've determined her share of cost for the nursing home and it’s more than her income? Is there a Medicaid caseworkers name and number on her paperwork? I dealt directly with that person. It does help to actually go to her office instead of emails.
