I have other health issues also. I am in need of In Home Care. I am very low income and with no assets, I have a house, but with a mortage. I have a boyfriend who has lived here 6 years and would like to remain here. I am on foodstamps and get help with food by a church. Can I get Medicaid?

That is a question for Medicaid. It’s income based & there are countable and non-countable assets. Contact your local social services office, that’s where you can apply for Medicaid. When you went to get food stamps, they didn’t mention anything about Medicaid? Just wondering because.....in California, it’s all tied together. You get Medi-cal and food stamps at the same place-the department of social services and they will determine every benefit you are eligible for.

I guess you are not on SS disability because if you were, you would get Medicaid. Like worried said, you need to call Medicaid. They also can provide homecare.

It depends upon your boyfriends income, and his contribution to the rent/household expenses. That is factored in along with your income,
and may put you over the income and asset limit required to receive Medicaid.

Look forward to getting better, complete recovery from the fall. I am hoping the best for your health.

imo.

If you don't mind, what exactly is your disabiity?

For example, can you walk unassisted?
Do you receive Social Security? (You paid into this program working during your lifetime?).
If you are retired, you already have Medicare at age 67?.
Have you been "disabled" by Social Security....an illness or condition expected to last your lifetime, or end in death? Was this at the time you were aged 60, or prior to retirement age of 65? (reason for asking...after 65 Soc. Sec. no longer calls you disabled.)

If you do have SS, and Medicare, persons with low income can also qualify for SSI.
It may be that you automatically qualify for "medicaid" if you qualify for SSI.

Sorry, I just do not have any information for persons on only SSI who do not qualify for Social Security.

Either way, if you do not understand a word I said, see a disability lawyer. imo.

Don't you have medicare? What is your income? I'm assuming you get a Social Security check? If you own a house you have assets, how do you pay the mortgage? What state do you live in? The place you applied for food stamps should be able to help you with services available to you for health care.
