I am a live in care provider and I make 800 every 2 weeks 1600 a month. I have 6 clients who all have schizophrenia. They all are very independent. My job is to cook for them administrator there medication and keep the house cleaned, and make sure the house rules are followed as well as support for them when they need. Which is fine I have grown a bond with all of them. The issue I am dealing with is I am here 24 hours a day 7 days a week with maybe a few hours off if I request it with a two day notice. I am not allowed to leave the house at all unless someone is here which is fine, night time is the same I am to be here at all times. I feel like I am being played for a sucker. I mention to the boss lady that the pay is not right he tells me" what , do you think I'm supposed to pay you to sleep?" And she says she is paying me within the law( whatever that means). Does anyone know whether or not she is right or am I being played for a sucker

Yes, call the Labor board and find out what your rights are as a live-in. Ask...

How is your room and board calculated, as part of ur salary or a perk of being a live-in.

How many hours are you allowed off a week.

Do you get what the minimum wage is? Right now ur only making 2.38 an hour if you are being paid for 24/7 care. I think your being paid $10 for 40 hrs a week. If so, thats all you work. They will need to find another aid to fill in when ur working. Or pay you.

Get the labor laws in writing.
