Today’s visit had me in chuckles. A fairly new resident is struggling with adjusting to MC. She walked up and down the hall way yelling call the police I’m being held hostage, or just says mean things to everyone (us included). Well today as she is yelling call the police, MIL is in her room yelling back OK we did! Ugggh! A riot will be started soon. I chuckled the entire time today, not saying it was funny but OH MY with MIL responding to her…..these nurses and staff did a wonderful job trying to calm the resident. The ladies son ended up being called, he seemed at wits end. We spoke to him for a few minutes as he just doesn’t know what to do. 6-8 weeks is an adjustment period….we are so thankful that MIL adjusted fairly quickly. I am still chuckling think of a “riot” starting in memory care

That is funny. Resident may need something to calm her. Such a shame.

Daughterinlaw56, that was so funny what your Mom-in-law had said to that lady.

I remember one time when I visiting my Mom's nursing home later in the evening. The nurses/aids were trying to get the residents ready for bed, but some of them would start wandering around the halls in their pj's. The nurses/aids got them back into their room. Before you knew it, they were back out in the halls. I overheard one nurse say to herself "God, give me strength". It was like herding cats.

When my mom was in a SNF my sister and brother in law would come to visit her. My BIL had suffered a series of small strokes, whic caused some slurred speech and a bit of a shuffle when he walked. During the winter and spring all he wore were sweats and leather shoes that look like scuffs.
BIL would get bored sitting in mom's room, so he would go out to the car to smoke and then he would come back. As he was walking down the hall to mom's room, a new CNA started following him, asking if she could help him and he said no and kept walking. She asked him where he was going and he didn't answer because he had signed in and listed the room number he was going to. The CNA was getting more and more upset, and she asked him for his name. Again BIL didn't answer because the information was on the sign log. About the time the CNA told him to stop or she would call security, my BIL got back to mom's room and went in and sat down. The CNA and the security guy came in and told my BIL he had to leave. My sister asked them why BIL had to leave, and the Security guard said he couldn't just go into any room he wanted. My sister told them he was her husband and the Son in law of the lady in room 134B!
The CNA thought my BIL was a resident there because of the way he was dressed and walked and talked, and that he was lost!
We laughed about it for several years.

That is funny. God bless your MIL for being able to still have a sense of humor in a place like that.

I have just spent 20 days in a nursing home rehabilitation center. I would recommend that these Homes are still not able to take care of seniors properly. They are still operating terribly.
