I'm so happy the LTC will pay for this to the amount of I thing in her life after a $35 thousand deductible; we have had part time care out of moms pocket for a couple years, The home care will extend from 3hrs a day to abt. 6hrs a day. problem is the good 2 women that are there for 3 hrs a day don't have in their schedule a 6hr.spot, we totally trust the 2 that care for her. what should we do? offer more $? their is not a perfect world but trust is everything.

You are right - trust is everything. You could try to offer more money if you really want these people. But if you have to move to other caregivers, I'd try a respected care agency where you have backup if someone can't come on a certain day, and you know the people are bonded and insured, plus they've gone through background checks. You can do this yourself, but it's not easy. Good luck. I know the hands-on caregivers are "everything" to the satisfaction of the elder and family. I hope you figure this out.

Can you keep the current caregivers and fill in with "trial' caregivers until you find a good fit? While a respected agency is a great idea, it's also nearly double the cost. I've been both. I currently work with a really nice agency, which I love, but which pays me $175 per shift, charging the client $320. That's a 24-hour shift. I've cut my caregiving down to one 24-hour shift per week as I focus on my home business and helping a friend out with his family store.

Private pay is great, although as Carol mentioned, there is no automatic "back up" caregiver if someone is ill, etc. Here's a tip from my business coach. You say the current women can't fit a 6 hour spot into their schedule. Ask them "What would it take in order for that to be able to happen?" and just see what they say. You never know! Good luck to you!
