My father is 85 yrs old. He does not have any routine and sleeps after eating breakfast and lunch. In the evening too he sometimes sleeps while sitting. I am worried as this may make his mind dull. I want him to be healthy mentally and happy involved in some activity. His only hobby was to read and now he cannot do so because of poor eyesight. What kind of activity should I involve him with. Also can someone please direct me to a good website of healthy vegetarian recipes for people above 80 yrs.

Regards

Golf. Fishing. Boating. Classic Car Shows. Anything outdoors.
Vegetarian? Beer. lots of carbs in beer. A bloody mary with V8 and don't forget the celery. You can get non-alcoholic beer and bloody mary mix. Good thai and Szechuan is loaded with vegetables. So are veggie pizzas. Many taco and sub shops will do up a veggie taco or sub.

What about books on tape? You can check them out at your local library.

If you can find something he can do, maybe deliver meals on wheels.

My husband is 85, has Parkinson's and newly diagnosed Lewy Body Dementia. He has a four wheel bike that he enjoys riding; walking any distance is becoming more difficult but riding the bike gives him freedom and great exercise. He goes to Tai Chi, belongs to a men's book club, attends bible study, goes to church, just finished a "Speed Geezer's" class with other Parkinson's patients (interval speed training on stationery bikes). We noticed the best positive mental responses came from the bike riding and speed geezers. Studies show that the differing levels of motion and speed stimulate the brain. We find books on tape are good, there are courses online that stimulate the mind. We have 2 dogs and they are the best medicine for keeping my husband active and in good humor.
