I care for my wife with Alzheimer’s. She is incontinent. I use a washable bed pad and then a heavy duty disposable pad that I first saw used while she was in the hospital from a broken femur. The pads were from Northshore Supply , called MagicSorb and are very good. What I like is their stiffness and strength. They don’t buch up like the thinner “blue” disposable pads. But, they are about $1.25 each and sometimes my wife’s diaper keeps the pad dry and sometimes it doesn’t. We can go through a pad a night. The washable cloth pad is primarily for “positioning” in the bed for strength. It never gets wet. Does anyone have a source for a good, non-bunching, strong pad like the MagicSorb but at less cost?

Here is a followup to my original question. The puppy pad suggestions were great and something I had never thought of. I tried a brand called All-Absorb Training Pads. Found them on Amazon. The X-large are 28”x34” and DO NOT BUNCH UP like the famous blue disposable pads being made for humans. They are ALMOST as good as the MagicSorbs from North Shore but not equal in strength and tear resistance.
These run $.50/each vs over $1/each for the MagiSorbs.
Now that I know they will work I will try and find a better price but I can highly recommend these. An important note is that we still use a washable pad underneath but that is for turning and positioning. It never actually gets wet and just gets laundered with the sheets as needed.
Thanks for all tbe good ideas.

I get mine for $26, 150 pcs, it absorbs great but I have to put a re-usable underpad so it won’t slip. Non slippery underpads are so expensive. I get them at www.astoreformom.com

You can get those puppy pads in bulk at Costco for really cheap. I use them as generic easy to clean up pads. Of course as absorbent pads on the bed or car seat if needed. But also when I need to trim nails or if I need to irrigate a skin wound. On a bed or seat they will bunch up shortly.

Thanks for these answers. I have ordered the puppy pads to try them out. If that doesn’t work for her I’ll probably start doing what Margaret 916 did, just use and walk the washable pads. We wash everyday anyway. Thanks to all!

BigjimM...they r rather thick but since they r not as big I imagine they may have a tendency to bunch somewhat..never really had that problem as my mom mostly slept without rolling around except nights sh got up to roam/fall..they r worth a try as they’re much cheaper..the majisorb r awesome best I’ve found but practically unafforadable

Hi Jim,
We used the washable pads, and changed them as needed. You can put 2 on the bed so that if one gets wet, you can remove it and the second one is already in place.
Best of luck
Margaret

Thank you, ByaThread! Great idea. Are they kind of stiff so that they don’t easily bunch up under your Mom?

We found these @ our local Big Lots..multi layer odor control..we put these on top of my moms washable pad the r smaller than the Northshore that r wonderful but very pricey..these r a good value and don’t leak like the thin blue ones...even though they r for pets they did work effectively..
