I work for a company now doing private duty. But, I'd rather have a family hire me, and also, work at my company to keep my licenses active.

What is your nursing experience?  Have you done private duty nursing previously?  If not, then you need to review the regulations for private duty nursing in Missouri.  Also, if you have not done any private duty nursing, it might be better to work for an home health agency so that you have a better understanding of the situations that you might face a private duty nurse.

Here are some websites that you need to look at:

Missouri Department of Social Service website:

STATE OF MISSOURI PRIVATE DUTY NURSING
MANUAL

I think that these might be able to answer some of your questions.  Also, you need to purchase your own Nursing Liability Insurance and make sure that the policy covers "private duty nursing" and "consulting".

Talk to other private duty nurses in Kansas City, MO and see what their experiences have been and what suggestions they can give you.  Good Luck.
