My husband has been in a skilled nursing facility for 5 months now because his family called APS on me to say I was neglecting him. He’s battling multiple sclerosis and I have been doing the best I can to take care of him because I love him. All the allegations are untrue and I haven’t even been given a chance to defend myself. My husband tells me he wants to come home every time I talk to him and I feel helpless because I can’t do anything about it. He knows I’ve never mistreated him that’s why he wants to come back home... he’s been trying to leave the facility on his own but he can’t walk so they always have to force him back in the bed. Is there anything we can do?

Find Care & Housing
Aps has to investigate. I would think they came to the house to see it and talked to you then? The result was they put him in SN? Are the offices shut down because of COVID. Have you received paperwork explaining their findings? Usually, they do everything they can to keep someone in their home. Just saw he was in an AL so how were you not caring for him. Who is paying for the Skilled Nursing, you privately or Medicaid?

Medicaid is paying for the SNF because there’s no way I could afford it
I’ve never gotten anything from aps they haven’t even been to my house. My husband has been in that facility since January 31st. His sister was the one talking to his doctor without me and they decided to put him in the facility. Once he was there his family called aps on me. I don’t even know what I’m being accused of because no one will talk to me. I was having trouble feeding my husband because he was suffering with swallowing problems and it was causing him to lose a lot of weight. Each and every appointment I talked to his doctor and told his doctor how bad it was getting to feed him and to keep weight on him. So I can understand his family being concerned even being mad about that but I had been trying to get him help. I kept his doctors informed on every single change my husband was going through and I really thought I was doing the right thing. I feel like public enemy number one now and I was doing the best I could. My husband even told them he wasn’t being mistreated or neglected. I feel so horrible

You could enlist a lawyer to answer this question for you. You do not mention if there was a case against you and what the decision of the autorities was? Or why. What did they claim you were doing that was not good enough. What conditions did they find that necessitated this move? Who has guardianship of your husband? This sounds now like it has entered into the legal realm.

I think there is a case I’m not even sure because nobody will talk to me. I don’t even know what I’m being accused of. I haven’t gotten a letter or anything and it’s been 4 months now. They never came to my home we were just sent an approval letter for an snf that had a bed open for him. He was only suppose to be there for 2 weeks but I ended up in the hospital while he was there and they kept me for 2 weeks. During that time that’s when I found out about the aps charges that were filed on me by his family. As far as I know I have guardianship over him.
