I have a 94 year old woman as a client. She is a retired R.N. and lives with her daughter and her daughters husband. (Which that’s a whole load of issues within itself as well). I’ve been caring for her since May of 2019. We think that she is slowly declining and caring for her becomes harder and harder each day. Recently I feel that there are days that she doesn’t remember who I am because she gets very nasty and aggressive towards me, which she’s usually not. She just had a fall in the bathroom a week ago when I was not working and she’s been going downhill from there. Her daughter is in charge of all her medical information and stuff like that but my client hasn’t been to a doctor in over a year. I have no care plan to go along with my client, I was just placed in their home with little information and have gone from there. If someone could offer up some advice and words of encouragement that would be very helpful because at this point I am super duper frustrated. I just want to provide the best care possible because this is what I live for and it makes me sad to see her decline like this.

She needs to see a doctor. This sudden change could be a UTI, stroke or other medical condition.

I am surprised that the doctors will provide prescriptions without seeing her at least annually.

Any severe change should be checked into by a medical professional.

If you work for an agency, I would go to your supervisor and explain the situation. The lady is, quite frankly, being neglected. She has no medical supervision, if she did not have a caregiver present when she fell, she is not being supervised if she was alone. You have no care plan so how do you know what to do? In addition, the lady is declining and could very well become combative. If she becomes injured due to being combative, would you be blamed?

if you care to continue this employ,ent, you need a care plan signed by the family and yourself and it must be made known she has no medical care.

The woman is 94, and at some point it is inevitable that she will decline, and die. You haven't given any details that lead me to conclude there is neglect or abuse... If the family has decided to consider her palliative then they wouldn't necessarily welcome any medical investigation or treatment, and in my opinion that needs to be respected.
