I have guardianship for a family member. It cost 10K for legal fees and filings. I do not get paid anything. Memory care here in my area of Florida runs around 60K per year, for a 4* facility.
In home care will vary greatly state to state, but will be enormously expensive no matter where you are. Dolly gave you info on the cost of seeking a guardianship; then it is dependent on whether that guardian is paid or not paid. A POA can often do what a guardian can, and a Fiduciary can do many things as well. Are you seeking this for yourself. As far as Assisted living, it varies greatly even withIN a state. In my own state of California 2 rooms in a very nice assisted living can be had in some areas of So. Ca. for 4,000 a month on the lowest level of care, and memory care at about 10,000 a month, whereas in No. California bay area it would cost twice that. So everything varies. Do check places in your area. But yes, in home care, unless one is a multimillionaire, and assuming one needs 24/7 assistance, is very expensive. Do check your own area where the question can be better answered for you.
jo12345, in-home care (especially from an agency) will eventually cost as much or more than a facility. If your LO needs 24/7 care overseen by someone with some medical qualifications, then definitely will cost more. The less medical requirements someone has, the less an agency charges for their services per hour. You can start by researching the cost of facilities in your area, then hire in-home care to give you some relief. At the point that the in-home begins to come close to the researched cost of a facility, it's time to transition over, and definitely BEFORE they need Medicaid to pay for that care.
